Osteopathy treats the cause, not the symptoms.

Osteo’s ask a lot of questions. We will get a case history of your condition, finding out when it happened, how it happened and how it has progressed. We will explore your medical history, to see if anything that has happened to you in the past may be affecting your issue today. We will give you a differental diagnosis of what we think the issue is and then perform a musculoskeletal assessment.

The musculoskeletal assessment consists of both active and passive motion testing, palpating hypertonic tissues and orthopaedic testing. Treatment techniques used may include soft tissue, joint mobilisation, balancing ligaments, dry needling, cupping and spinal manipulation. If strengthening exercises are required they will be prescribed. At the end of the treatment you will likely feel some reduction in pain and improved joint range of motion. The aim is to harness the body’s healing properties, so you will feel the most change 2 days after your appointment.

Follow up appointments are required to prevent compensation patterns from creeping back in and to get full resolution of your presenting complaint.

The history of Osteopathy

Osteopathy was founded in Missouri, USA in 1874 by a physician named Andrew Taylor Still. He recognised that disease and dysfunction could be treated by manipulation of the muscuoloskeletal system. By treating the body as a whole, he could restore proper fluid dynamics and harness the body’s innate ability to heal itself.

Over the years Osteopathy has grown with the biomedical field, to include Evidence Based Medicine as part of the treatment process. We look for restrictions to identify where the body is compensating and correct them. We will treat the muscles, bones, ligaments and nervous system with the aim to restore proper physiology to injured tissues to allow the body to heal.
